The Crump Theatre

On September 26, 2009 The Phantom Tribe went to Columbus, IN to investigate the reportedly haunted Crump Theatre. Investigators present were Amy, Adam, Jason, Phil, Holly, and Nate.

Amy, Jason, and Holly arrived late in the afternoon while Adam, Phil, and Nate arrived a couple hours later. Here are some of the experiences that occurred when it was Amy, Jason, and Holly. At 7:20pm Amy and Holly were sitting in the lobby while Jason was outside getting some equipment from the car. While they were in the lobby they heard a female voice but it was not just talking rather the voice was singing that came from the theatre area. They went and grabbed the digital voice recorder and headed into the theatre. After taking a seat and listening for a bit they heard footsteps and then a door open. They went outside to find Jason and see if the footsteps or door could have been him however he was by the car the entire time. At that time the three of them went back into the theatre and they all heard footsteps and knocking around 7:40pm.

The three moved into the lobby at 7:54pm and after sitting down for a moment they heard music coming from the stage area of the theatre. They also reported hearing someone walking down the aisle as well as talking and what sounded like coughing.

A little while after Adam, Phil, and Nate arrived and took a look around the place, Amy, Adam, Jason, and Holly decided to go outside for a break while Phil and Nate were in the Theatre seats investigating. Holly had to go back inside for a moment to grab something and a second later she came running out screaming. As she was walking back towards the doors she saw a full body apparition of a man in an old brimmed hat standing by the doorway. This was around 9:20pm.

At 10:00pm we all decided to go and investigate the basement area. At one end of the hallway was our EMF meter and at the other end by where we were sitting was a K2 meter. Reports had been made that a girl had been seen walking the basement area so we were trying to communicate with her. We asked for her to come and join us and a few seconds after asking that our EMF meter went off and a couple seconds later went off again. It was almost like the girl came down the stairs to join us and passed the EMF meter making it go off and then got scared and went back up the same way passing the EMF meter again making it go off the second time.

At 11:00pm we were all in the lounge area where we all heard coughing and what sounded like a chair sliding across the floor in the women's dressing room next to the lounge.

Around 1:10am, Amy and Holly were in the balcony area while Adam, Jason, Phil, and Nate headed up to what used to be the segregation room. In the segregation room we were trying to get responses through us knocking seeing if the noise would be repeated. Phil knocked once the first time and asked "if there was anything with us, would you please make the same sound?" We then heard what was clearly one knock. Phil did this again but knocked twice however this time we only heard one knock in return. Phil tried this a third time with two knocks again and this time the two knocks back were as plain as day. It was almost like the knocks were getting closer. We then knocked again without any questions to see if it was some kind of echo and this time we didn't hear anything.

At 2:00am we were all outside getting ready to go back into the theatre and Amy heard a woman scream from inside. The scream got louder when she opened the door to the point where we all heard the scream. Five minutes later Phil, Adam, and Jason were headed back to the theatre seating and when Phil was passing the lounge he heard a creaking sound come from the chair in the lounge. He looked over and saw the chair tipped backwards as if someone was sitting in it and leaning back however no one was in the chair.

We made another trip back into the basement area at 3:00am. As we were sitting there asking questions and trying to communicate with whatever spirit might have been down there, the EMF meter went off three times.

After this investigation and the team discussing all of our personal experiences we concluded that there was no doubt the Crump Theatre is haunted and paranormal activity is taking place there.

Being a paranormal investigator is not just about investigating the paranormal. There are different kinds of paperwork that one must have to cover our backs and also protect the clients. When we first started this it was very difficult to find said paperwork. After about a month or so I found some.

Hanna House Meet & Greet 2009

We had a wonderful time at the Hanna House Meet & Greet 2009. We met a lot of groups and some great people. We took a lot of pictures, feel free to check them out at www.thephantomtribe.com just follow the link.

Events like this are crucial for the unity of the paranormal community. This is a great learning experience for all involved. I would like to thank Danielle Garrison of Crossroads Paranormal for letting us help out this year.

Private Home

On April 25, 2009 we were called out to a home in Waynetown, In. This was a single occupant home whose previous owners had died in November of 2004. The current owner has lived here for about 5 years. Not much was known about the history of the property except it has not always been on that lot. The house was moved to it's current location. The previous owners lived there for 20 years, both died within a day of each other. Some claims of activity were movement of objects, footsteps, knocking, banging, sounds from the TV when it was not on, cold spots and being touched. Most activity occurred around 3am like clockwork every night.

We split up into teams and investigated separately all night. We took numerous pictures, plenty of video, and did EVP work throughout the entire property. We Swept the house for a base EMF reading and other than the fuse box there were not any high EMF's.

We started our investigation around 9pm and finished at 4am. After reviewing all the evidence that we captured we were unable to find any evidence of a haunting here. We informed the property owner of our findings and asked that she contact us if the activity still persists.

Having been investigating the paranormal for a while now, I know that you can not turn it on and off like a switch. Sometimes spirits do not want to make themselves known to strangers. This is an ongoing investigation.

**UPDATE**

We were contacted by the homeowner and informed that the activity is still going on. We have agreed to go back out and assist her. We will post our findings here after the investigation.

Private Home

We investigated this home on April 11, 2009. The couple had only been in this house for about a week. They claimed that from the first night they stayed there some things had been happening. Claims of activity are: Scribble marks appearing on the wall in one bedroom, that was not there before. Also an apparent "H" written on the wall as well as one carved into the window sill in the kitchen. They have been hearing footsteps, knocking, and scratching. There was a strong smell of death in the kitchen around the door to the basement. They also had feelings of nausea. Cold spots all over the house and jewelry had been moved. The previous family had moved out of the house in the middle of the night with no explanation, according to a neighbor. Despite all of the pictures, video, digital recordings, and EMF readings we took, we found no evidence of paranormal activity.

While doing EMF readings we did come across some high EMF readings near the bedroom where the couple sleeps. We also had some at the top of the stairs and in the first bedroom. Which brings me to the conclusion of a possible Fear Cage. Fear Cage is a term used to describe a confined area such as a walk in closet, hallway or basement with very high EMF readings. The combination of being close and confined with in an area of strong EMF often brings out extreme feelings of uneasiness, anxiety, paranoia and/or uncontrollable fear. When this occurs the best thing is to quickly and calmly leave the area and go to a more open area with lower EMF.

Our night began about 9pm and we left around 4:30am. We took plenty of pictures, several videos, and numerous digital recordings. We felt cold spots in different areas of the house which we attributed to the drafts coming from the windows. A couple of us had some headaches and felt a little sick, but there were high EMF readings in those areas. This house was built in 1910, hardwood floors throughout. The furnace kicking on made some loud noises and with the wind blowing outside the house creaked a little. This will be an on going investigation.

Hays Cemetery 04-05-09

On April 5, 2009 Jason and I decided to take a trip out to Hays Cemetery, one of our favorite places to go due to the fact that almost every time we go out there we experience something that cannot be explained but as paranormal. We headed out there at 12:20am arriving just before 1:00am. We got our stuff together and started our EVP recording at 1:04am. We started our investigation around a few tombstones where we have experienced activity before. Fifteen minutes into it we started to get that eerie, unearthly feeling, however we had not captured any evidence on our camera or gotten any abnormal EMF readings. We then headed back further in to the cemetery where we stopped to examine the creepy feeling we were experiencing. As we were asking questions, Jason asked if there were any entities here that did not want us walking their territory. A few seconds after the question was asked, Jason's cell phone rang. When we went to see who was calling us at 1:36am we saw that the number was 888-888-8888. Jason then preceded to answer the phone but there wasn't anyone on the other end. We called the number back and all that was said was "All circuits are busy." We stayed around the cemetery for a little while longer without much activity and then decided to leave. We continued to call the number back on the way home and got the same message every time. Upon arriving home, we listened to the voice recordings and at 1:20am we got an unknown voice saying what sounds like "I did it!" We found it a bit odd that we caught a voice on our EVP recorder at 1:20am and then at 1:36am got that strange phone call. The next day we called the number back and we were still getting the same message that all circuits are busy. We then looked up the number on the Internet and found that people have received calls from this number before. The posts on the site we looked at had several story's of the 888-888-8888 number. Some said that they answered their phone in the middle of the night and no one was there while others reported that it was some telemarketing company. What we found mysterious was that we received the call sixteen minutes after we caught a strange voice on our recorder and that the number doesn't seem to exist anymore after calling it back several times. After this adventure to hays cemetery we concluded that there was some kind of paranormal activity going on that could not be explained. We plan to go out there very soon again to investigate further.

Hell's Gate 03-27-09

The story we have read about Hell's Gate is as follows; Hell's Gate is a train overpass, where according to legend a train derailed, killing several people. Many people still visit this site believing that paranormal activity occurs here. When you arrive at this tunnel you are supposed to go through it, turn around go back into the tunnel, stop in the middle and turn off your car. After several minutes you can see blood seeping from the walls and hear loud banging around you car. Then if you see your name on the walls, it meant your impending doom. The tunnel is full of graffiti, so more than likely you will see your name on the wall.

Friday 03-27-09 we headed out to Hell's Gate. When we arrived here I was surprised to see how dark it was at this location. We did what the legend said and we sat in the middle of the tunnel with the car off for about 10 minutes. We did not see any blood dripping down the walls. We heard what sounded like talking and then there were some banging noises followed by moaning sounds. We did hear what sound like a train in the distance. This went on for a little bit. We then had to move there was a car coming and if you have been here you know that this tunnel is obviously not big enough for 2 cars.

We went up the road and turned around. Jason and Adam wanted to go back and climb to the top of the tressel. It was about 2:42 am and a train came through.

We got out of the car and decided to do some EVP work in the tunnel during dead time. We still heard the occasional moan and another train came through at 3:50am. Jason was asking the questions, it did get real cold in that tunnel and I took a piture while he was demanding something to make it's presence known and I got a pic of an ORB above Jason's head. I am really not sure what that was all I know is it was not in the next couple of photos.

100 Step Cemetery

On Friday March 27, 2009 we decided to go to Brazil, IN and check out the 100 Step Cemetery. We arrived about 10 til midnight, which was good because according to legend everything happens at midnight. The story goes; if you walk up the stairs counting them, when you get to the top look toward the open field and the ghost of the cemetery's first caretaker will appear. Without saying a word he will reveal your death to you in a vision. The climber MUST proceed down the steps, counting them again. If you do not get the same number as you got going up, then you will die the way the caretaker showed you. Legend also states that you must walk up the steps to get to the cemetery, if you try to walk up the grassy hill you will be pushed down to the ground by a phantom hand, which will leave a red imprint for several days so those who see it can see the mark of the Devil.

Adam and I decided we would walk up the stairs and do the counting while Jason walked up the hill in the grass next to the stairs to see if you do indeed get shoved down. Adam got to the top and counted 59 steps, I counted 58. We looked to the right toward the open field, but did not see the caretaker. Jason made it to the top without getting shoved to the ground. That took care of the legend.

While we were there we thought we would look around and take some pictures. This cemetery is in bad shape. People have destroyed this place. There was graffiti on trees and tombstones. Tombstones were toppled over, most of them broken. It is very sad to know that people do not have enough sense to be respectful of the dead.

All in all it was uneventful at this cemetery.

Hays Cemetery 10-18-08

On this particular night it was a little chilly, no rain. Adam, Chris, Sam, Robert, Kristy, and myself decided to go to Hays Cemetery to do some investigating. Hays Cemetery is one place that I love to visit. It is very rare that I do not have some sort of paranormal experience.

We took a lot of pictures and caught some unexplainable mists. We did not catch anything on the voice recorders or on camcorder. We did have some personal experiences. I saw black shadowy figures running around the cemetery. This was the first time I had actually seen anything. I heard many different noises. Loud whispers, woman crying in the distant, and footsteps. I also felt as if I was being followed at different times during the night.

If anyone reading this has ever been to Hays Cemetery, then you already know the activity that is there. This cemetery has different feels each time I go there. This night there was this ominous feeling in the atmosphere.

Some stories about this cemetery are as follows:

There story of a man murdering his wife by hanging and then shooting her with an arrow. Satanists back in the 70’s would come here and some of the graves were dug up and body parts were used for the cult’s activities.

There is also a story of a little girl, suspected to be the devil. There has been a plant growing on the top of her grave for many years that has now taken the shape of the Devil's pitchfork.

I have not been able to locate such a grave.

Investigation @ Central State

On October 31, 2008 several members of The Phantom Tribe investigated Central State, located in Indianapolis, IN. It was a dry, cool evening. Members present were Amy, Adam, Chris, Robert, Kristy, and Sam. We started out in the Administration Building. Equipment we had on hand: digital cameras, night vision camcorder, and voice recorders.

We split up into 2 groups. One group upstairs and the other downstairs. We walked around taking pictures and doing EVP work. We never did catch anything in this building. There were some kids driving around trying to cause some trouble. After all it was Halloween!

We spent some time walking around a couple other buildings and spent some time down in the tunnels that connect the Evans building with the Bahr Treatment Center. The tunnels were a little scary, but still we came up empty handed.
